peonies of the coos riviera

Just above the Connecticut River in New Hampshire's Coos County, more than a hundred varieties of herbaceous peonies, tree peonies, and intersectional-hybrid peonies bloom from late May to early July.

Bloom season 2024 has ended a week earlier than expected and advertised . The rapid development of buds in unaccustomed heat, followed by daily thunderstorms and vicious downpours, has bruised and stripped petals from the plants, destroying the planned display of late-season peonies. The garden is now closed to visitors, as only peony foliage remains.
