peonies of the coos riviera

Just above the Connecticut River in New Hampshire's Coos County, more than a hundred varieties of herbaceous peonies, tree peonies, and intersectional-hybrid peonies bloom from late May to early July.

The garden closes July 2, after a vicious downpour damaged flowers and stripped petals from stems, exactly at peak bloom (greatest number of cultivars at once). As the heat of summer sets in, peonies stop flowering and attend instead to root development. To arrange a visit despite the weather, or to order peonies for fall planting, email peonies@criv.com or phone 603.837.9800.
